proposals to furnish museum exhibition design and architect-engineering
services for the "Behring Family Hall of Mammals" exhibition to be
located at the National Museum of Natural History, in Washington, D.C.
The size of the exhibition area is approximately 25,000 square feet.
The selected designer will perform all exhibition design services to
complete the conceptual design phase including preparation of a
preliminary cost estimate of each gallery for construction,
mock-ups,testing and fabrication. The designer will also be required to
provide architect-engineering design services related to the design
work effort. A/E design services shall include but not be limited to,
life safety, ADA, architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical,
and lighting design as related to the exhibit design. The basic "white
box" structure shall be completed outside the scope of this contract.
Optional services may include exhibition design development, final
design/engineering/detailing, and fabrication/construction phase
services. All firms interested in submitting a proposal in response to
this solicitation need copies of the Request For Proposals (RFP)
documents and they are available upon request from Smithsonian
Institution, Office of Contracting, 955 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Suite
P-114, Washington, DC 20024-2119 (Attn: Code 36). Requests for RFP
documents should be written on company letterhead and have complete
street address, telephone and facsimile numbers, and company
representative name. Written requests for documents may be submitted by
facsimile to 202.287.2008. Interested parties may attend a pre-proposal
meeting and site visit. Date, time and location of pre-proposal meeting
and site visit and due date and time for submission of proposals will
be included in the bid documents. All firms responding to this
solicitation will be required to submit a written business and
