NASA/GRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for: S200/300 C-COUPONS (1 LOT)* C-COUPONS OF HI-NICALON/S200, SYLRAMIC/S300 AND ZMI/S300 CEERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES. (7 MACHINED COUPONS OF EACH MATERIAL TRYPE) SPECIFICATIONS FOR C-COUPONS OF THE FOLLOWING 3 MATERIALS: (1) HI-NICALON 17 LOW ENDS PER INCH 5HS/S200 Si-N-C MATRIX (2) SYLRAMIC 20 TOW ENDS PER INCH 5 HS/S 300 MATRIX (3) zmi 17 TOW ENDS PER INCH 5 HS/S 300 FABRIC FOR ITEMS (1) AND (2) SHALL BE SUPPLIED BY NASA; ZMI FABRIC SHALL BE SUPPLIED BY COI CERAMICS. THE INTERFACE SHALL BE SYNTERIALS MOD 1 IN ALL CASES. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GRC intends to purchase the items from COI Ceramics. COI Ceramics Inc. has demonstrated properties and microstructure and established a databse for Si-N-C derived matrix ceramic composites. NASA Glenn has an extensive database and characterization of the s200 processing. The S300 process, and ZMI/S300, are beign characterized using material previously purchased for NASA Glenn. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B".
