J -- MAINTENANCE OF MRI COMPONENTS SOL RFP 509-35-01 DUE 091100 POC Faye S. Thomas, 706-731-7176 Under Statutory Authority 41 U.S.C. 253(c), the VA Medical Center, Augusta, Georgia, intends to negotiate a commerical (FAR Part 12) sole source contract with Marconi Medical Systems, Inc., for preventive maintenance inspections and emergency repair services on nine (9) components of the MRI system. The nine (9) components are left over equipment when the system was upgraded. The newly installed MRI system will be accepted and begin warranty maintenance in October 2000. It is determined to be in the best interest of the Government to negotiate a maintenance contract with Marconi Medical Systems as these components form an integral portion of the newly installed system and it would be difficult to define responsibilities for two separate contractors. This notice is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all interest received on or before September 11, 2000, will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to open this requirement for competition based upon responsesto this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
