This RFI is issued solely for information and planning purposes -- it does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP). This request for information does not commit the government to contract for any service whatsoever. The USAF Space and Missile Systems Center Test and Evaluation Directorate (SMC/TE) requests information about the cost and availability of Rocketdyne LR-89 Rocket Engines or equivalent engines for research purposes. If other than LR-89 engines, specifications should be provided to demonstrate equivalence to LR-89s. For purposes of equivalence, the physical, functional, or performance characteristics to be considered include, but are not limited to, size; thrust; propellant; and weight. Availability of product and age of the engine is also requested. Price quotes are requested to assist in planning. Cost estimates provided will not be binding to the vendor. Information submitted in response to this RFI will become the property of SMC. SMC will not be obligated to pursue any particular acquisition alternative as a result of this RFI. Proprietary information is not being solicited, but if provided, proprietary information or trade secrets should be clearly identified. Any restrictions or limitations on the use of the information submitted in response to this RFI must be clearly identified, explained and properly marked. SMC will not pay for information provided, and is not liable for any costs incurred by the vendor in response to this RFI. The government will not reimburse contractors or responders to this notice for any costs incurred in responding, or in subsequent exchanges of information. Organizations having the expertise and capabilities to provide the required item are invited to submit information discussing such capabilities. Responses must be received not later than 26 August 2000 and should consist of a total of no more than 10 pages, excluding any marketing and/product brochures. NOTE: Information submitted does not constitute a proposal, but will be considered an exchange of capabilities and ideas. Responses may be submitted electronically.
