Mississippi has a requirement for a GSI Lumonics, ScanArray 5000XL
Biochip scanning system. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for
commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart
12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this
notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; quotations
are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued.
Solicitation No. IFB 2000-4431-024 is being issued as an Invitation for
Bid. This solicitation document and incorporated provisions and clauses
are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 97-12.
Offerors are to provide prices for the following: (1) 1ea -- ScanArray
5000XL Standard Biochip Scanning System (100 -- 240V) which includes
these specifications -- Software controlled confocal scanning laser
system for the analysis of fluorescently labeled microarray biochips.
The scanning system must meet the following specifications/requirements
and include all the equivalent parts listed by GSI Lumonics catalog
number and description. 1ea ScanArray5000XL, ScanArray 5000XL standard
Biochip Scanning System with ScanArray Acquisition software, network
communication cable, instruction manual and power cords. 1ea QuantArray
Microarray Analysis Software -PC, 1ea Shipping, Warranty: One-year
parts and labor, Set-up, Installation and one day on-site training with
follow up training. System Specifications: Confocal five-color scanning
system with bi-directional linear translation slide positioning for the
purpose of acquisition and analyzing gene expression data from
microarrays. System is to be upgradeable with additional laser,
alternative lasers and autoloader. Specifications: Sample size:
Standard or metric slides, 1" x 3" (25 x 76 mm), Scanning Field: 22 mm
x 73 mm, Pixel Resolution: Multi-resolution scanning, 5, 10, 20, 30

dyes compatibility: AlexaTM488, 532, 546, 568 and 594, Fluorescein,
Rhodamine, 5-FAM, TAMARA, JOE, ROX, Texas Red. Sample type
compatibility: Standard and metric glass microscope slides; membranes,
plastics and reflective metals; wet and dry samples, with and without
covers slips; commercially available biochips, including NEN MICROMAX
System. Lasers: Configuration-five (5) lasers: 488nm and 514nm (Argon)
external, and 543nm(GHeNe), 594nm(YHeNE), and 633nm(RHeNe) internal.
Laser excitation range: 488nm to 633nm, Laser excitationrange
available: 488nm (Argon), 514nm (Argon), 543nm(GHeNe), 594nm (YHeNE),

emission channels from 500nm to 633nm compatible with selected lasers.
Scanning resolution: 5 to 50 um, System is to be capable of scanning
22 mm x 73mm in < 5 minutes. System is to be capable of real time
characterization of excitation and emission light to allow for
instrument-to-instrument normalization and calibration over time and
temperature. System is to be upgradeable with alternative internal and
external lasers and autoloader. External/Internal Lasers: Computer

and bottom of samples. System is to be capable of using alphanumeric
characters to define and track gene information. Labels are to be
resistant to microarray preparation, washing and hybridization. System
Automation: Automatic four color imaging and experimental protocols
allowing for 24 hr operation. Automatic channel range and balancing.
Laser sleep mode. Multiple image summing and averaging feature.
Autofocus. User defined background subtraction and dark current
correction. High-speed TCP/IP network interface. Analysis Software
Specifications: Fully automated of two, three and four-color microarray
images using user-defined analysis protocols. Seamless integration into
ScanArray acquisition software. One-Step scanning and quantitation with
Automation Module. Auto-adjustable grid feature to fit most
microarrays. Automatic and use-defined data extraction and export to
Excel and ASCII formats. Scatter plot, pie, bar, histogram, threshold
and statistical graphical visualization. Three quantitation methods
(Histogram, Fixed Circle, Adaptive) and quantitative pixel display.
Automated cross-talk correction for signal and background calculations.
Image annotation assigns gene names and allows for text and object
placement on images. Import of spotting parameters associates spot
locations to gene name. Delivery of the equipment shall be made within
45 days after receipt of the contract order and will be delivered to
USDA, ARS, MSA, Biological Control and Mass Rearing Research Unit,
Stoneville, Mississippi 38776. Prices should reflects that they are FOB
