Contracts Office, Contract@nist.gov. The National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a contractor to
provide services to prepare biological samples for manipulation and
quantification using optical tweezers. The contractor shall perform the
following tasks: 1) Be responsible for producing samples to be used in
a laser trapping and dissection apparatus (optical tweezers and
optical scissors, respectively), 2) Prepare the samples in a vessel
with medium suitable for use in a laser trapping apparatus, and 3) Make
measurements using the samples in the laser trapping and dissection
apparatus. Deliverables shall include preparations of cells, liposomes
and microspheres coated with biomolecules, as required for use in the
laser trapping experiments, data on measurements of adhesion forces
and rate constants between binding pairs of biomolecules and monthly
progress reports which contain the specific protocol for sample
preparation as well as specific details of the measurement procedures.
Work shall be performed on-site at the NIST Gaithersburg, Maryland
site. The contractor shall meet the following minimum experience
requirements: 1) The contractor shall have a Masters or higher degree
in biochemistry or a biochemistry related field; 2) The contractor
shall have 3 or more years of experience in the covalent coupling of
antibodies and antigens to microspheres; 3) The contractor shall have
experience in the covalent coupling of fluorescent molecules to
biomolecules and microspheres; 4) The contractor shall have experience
in separation and handling of leukocytes from whole blood; 5) The
contractor shall have experience in the preparation of micron-sized
liposomes; 6) The contractor shall have experience in working with a
laser trapping apparatus (optical tweezers); 7) The contractor shall
have experience in measuring adhesion forces between binding pairs of
biomolecules; and 8) The contractor shall have experience in measuring
rate constants for adhesion between binding pairs of biomolecules.
Evaluation criteria shall be Understanding the Technical Requirement
and Experience of Key Personnel. F.O.B.Destination, Gaithersburg,
Maryland. The Period of Performance shall be one year from date of
award. There shall also be four additional one year option periods. All
responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by
the agency. Solicitations shall be available at:
