The amendment is issued to clarify and to provide the following additional information. (1) The types of clinical and environmental samples to be involved are blood, vomit, saliva, food and soil. (2) The range of sample volume or mass is 0.1 -- 2ml. (3) Serum and urine are cell-free samples that might possibly be involved. (4) Both DNA and RNA are the desired nucleic acid. (5) Viruses are the primary types of organisms involved. (6) Multiple methods are currently being used for extraction in non-automated formats.
