The Public Information and Liaison Branch, National Institute on Drug
Abuse, NIH is responsible for continuing the development of the NIDA
web site (http://www.nida.nih.gov). The site is intended to provide a
vast range of drug abuse and addiction information to a variety of
target audiences, including drug abuse professionals, health care
professionals, researchers in drug abuse and addiction, teachers,
students, parents, and the general public. With the help of this
Request For Information (RFI) and information gathered from interested
and capable sources, NIDA intends to develop an RFP to select a
contractor who can assist us with enhancing our current web site.
Specifically, NIDA wishes to create an on-line clearinghouse that would
include a mechanism for ordering publications, interactive training
modules for professionals seeking CEU and CME credits in substance
abuse and addiction; methodology to encourage feedback on products from
users; and other novel outreach to encourage increased used ofthe NIDA
web site. This RFI is for information and planning purposes only. At
this time, NIDA seeks information regarding current and developing
applications to enhance the NIDA web site that can later be
incorporated into the scope of work of an RFP, and information
concerning the identity of interested and capable sources. Please
address the questions listed below: 1. Have you experience developing
training modules that meet accreditation standards and also are usable
online? 2. What are the emerging areas for interactive web sites? 3.
What suggestions do you have for an online, user-friendly ordering
system for NIDA materials? 4. What technologies can you offer to
existing users of the site that will enhance the information they get
from NIDA? 5. What is the type and size of your organization (e.g.,
Large Business, Small and/or Small Disadvantaged Business, HUBZone
Business, Woman-Owned Business, Non-Profit, etc.)? Technical
debriefings of the Government's evaluation of the information received
will not be conducted. However, based on the response we receive, we
may ask sources to participate in a focus group to further explore the
development of a work statement to be incorporated into an eventual,
possibly competitive, solicitation and resultant contract. Please
respond by 10/6/2000 by submitting two copies of your response,
referencing NIDA-RFI-2000-01 to: Dale Weiss, Contracting Officer, NIDA,
Room 3105, 6001 Executive Blvd., Bethesda, MD 20892-9543. Limit your
specific responses to three to five typed pages. You may also submit
company capability statements with your response. Any proprietary
information or trade secrets should be clearly marked. This RFI does
not constitute a solicitation, and shall not be construed as a
commitment by the Government to pay for any costs associated with the
preparation or use of the requested information. Posted 08/24/00
