E-MAIL: Sonya Rappoport, srappop@pica.army.mil. The U.S. Army TACOM/ARDEC intends to execute a modification to contract DAAE30-96-C-0013. This effort will be to install and prove-out ultrasonic instrumentation intended to provide real time Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) of TNT mixtures within a production melt kettle at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. The ultrasonic system will consist of ultrasonic transmitters and receivers encased in stainless steel (probe) and the electronics used to interpret the produced signals. This will provide instantaneous information on the solid/liquid composition of the TNT slurry. Procedures will be developed to utilize this equipment as an aid in the preparation of TNT slurry mixtures. The ultrasonic probe will be integrated with a Programmable Logic controller (PLC) that will automatically adjust the percent solids by adding TNT in the necessary physical state.
