E-MAIL: Jerry Maggard, Jerry.Maggard@robins.af.mil. NIP Attenuator Diode Capability Survey Introduction The Electronic Combat Product Group at Robins AFB, Georgia (WR-ALC/LN) is searching for companies who can supply silicon chip NIP attenuator diodes for the AN/APM-427 Improved Radar Simulator (IRS). The IRS is a set of four battery-powered portable radar simulators used to test Radar Warning Receivers on various USAF aircraft on the flight line. The IRS was fielded in 1984 and is now suffering from parts obsolescence. The IRS will be incrementally replaced by a new system over the next three to five years. The subject NIP diodes attenuate RF signals to produce radar scan patterns when installed in a modulator/detector sub-assembly inside one of the four IRS boxes. The previous suppliers have either gone out of business or have stopped manufacturing these diodes. The original specification for these diodes is provided with this survey. Companies who already manufacture a diode that they believe can meet the specification are preferred, but any companywho has experience in this area is welcome to respond. Instructions Participants must be proven manufacturers of silicon chip PIN/NIP attenuator diodes. Participants must answer all survey questions below. Existing product specifications or data sheets may be submitted to supplement the responses. Survey Questions 1. Describe your companies' product line. 2. Describe your customer base. 3. Does your company currently manufacture silicon chip PIN and/or NIP attenuator diodes? 4. Do you have an existing product that you believe will meet the specification? 5. If you answered yes to question #4, what is the unit cost of that product? 6. List any present or past military-related customers. 7. Do you have the capability to test the diodes to the specification? 8. If you would have to manufacture diodes for this application, what is your estimated start-up time? 9. Is any ozone depleting substance (ODS) required to manufacture these diodes? 10. What is your minimum quantity for a diode order? Posted 08/28/00 (D-SN490699). (0241)
