Description

The National Data Buoy Center(NDBC) has a requirement for an ARGOS S-band Satellite Downlink Receiving System. The ARGOS S-band Satellite Downlink Receiving System shall operate in a frequency band centered at 1700 MHz and be capable of receiving HRPT digital downlink signals in near real-time from Polar Orbiting NOAA TIROS satellites. The system shall be capable of decoding the TIP contained in the HRPT signal and determining ARGOS transmitter position location or displaying meteorological or other data contained within the TIP. The system shall be an integrated, self-contained system that includes all hardware, cabling, and software required to carry out the functions of satellite tracking, HRPT signal acquisition, TIP decoding, and data graphing and display. The system shall be capable of automatically acquiring all NOAA TIROS satellites, tracking them, controlling the receiving antenna, and sending the TIP data to a supplied computer for decoding, graphing, or display in engineering units. Since the tracking antenna and antenna controls will be installed outdoors, this part of the system shall be packaged in ruggedized, corrosion resistant enclosures and/or be fabricated of corrosion resistant materials in order to survive the rigors of the environment. The TIP data decoding and processing computer shall be installed indoors in environmentally controlled conditions and shall meet the less stringent requirements of an office environment.
