Description
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science and Technology, EM-50 in coordination with the DOE Ohio Field Office, DOE Sub-Surface Contaminants Focus Area and the DOE Fernald Environmental Management Project, is sponsoring through Fluor Fernald, Inc, a prime contractor to DOE, a PCSTP primarily at Fernald, Ohio, but also at the Mound, Ohio DOE site. This PCSTP intends to evaluate (search/screen), demonstrate, and deploy technology for Post Closure Stewardship (PCS) at the Fernald and Mound, Ohio sites. In preparation for PCS and to facilitate the technology search/screen/demonstrate/deployment sequence, respective Fernald and Mound Technical Experts have prepared fact sheets detailing anticipated technology needs. Currently, Fernald has prepared fact sheets for the following technology needs: On Site Disposal Facility (OSDF) Cover System Monitoring Needs, Passive Leachate Treatment and Monitoring Needs, Real-time monitoring/measurement technology for leak detection indicator constituents/parameters in water, Real time technology for detection and quantification of flow volume in the OSDF's Leachate Collection System and Leak Detection System, Automated meteorological monitoring needs, and Data acquisition, storage and retrieval needs. Currently, Mound has prepared fact sheets for the following technology needs: Monitoring of institutional controls/deed restrictions prohibiting the installation of bedrock wells or borings, Monitoring of institutional controls/deed restrictions prohibiting the removal of soil from the site, Data management technology, including considerations of long term storage, Real-time monitoring of water, and Identify and analyze the needs of the insurance and financial communities relative to long term stewardship. Technology vendors and providers are encouraged to attend a meeting on PCS technology needs at the Fernald and Mound sites being held September 19 & 20 at the University of Cincinnati. In addition, DOE managers and representatives from around the complex, regulators, stakeholders, and technology developers will be in attendance and participating in the meeting. The meeting will provide an excellent forum for technology vendors/providers to interface with the respective site technology experts, to understand the needs in greater detail, and to understand how to submit a technology for consideration in the PCSTP.
