Description
There is no doubt that the Army and Marine Corps have moved out in transforming their ground combat vehicle fleet for the future. The Combat Vehicles Conference for 2000 will focus on this transformation from three different perspectives. Following the keynote and presentations from headquarters leaders of both services, the conference will first provide a full and current status of transformation as it is occurring today throughout the force. It is anticipated that the Army's Brigade Combat Team contract will have been awarded, and the Program Manager will provide his views of the value on that effort. Ft. Lewis activities will be reviewed and a roadmap to a combat ready brigade will be discussed. Marine presentations will be directed toward fleet upgrades and continued maturation of the AAAV. The second perspective will focus on the combat systems of the next decade and the challenges facing their development. For the Army, the Future Combat System (FCS) Technology Investment Decision in the Spring of 2003 will be monumental in charting an evolutionary or revolutionary course. The outcome is far from decided. Synergy between the Marine Corps' Evolutionary Expeditionary Vehicle and the Army's FCS will be discussed. Finally, the conference will conclude with a panel of past senior leaders who will draw from their roles in past transformation experiences and provide a frank assessment of both Army and USMC transformation initiatives. Their insight may offer sound advice, which if heeded, might enhance program success. Transformation will be the order of the day, and this conference will assist industry in expanding its contribution to service goals.
