- Description
- The Department of Defense (DoD) is seeking information in the feasibility of transferring ownership of the Defense Blood Standard System (DBSS) to a firm that is capable of manufacturing Blood Establishment Computer Software. The Department of Defense (DoD) currently manufactures a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Class II medical device entitled Defense Blood Standard System (DBSS). This device is Blood Establishment Computer Software (BECS) that is currently 510(k) approved. DBSS provides procedures for collecting, manufacturing, testing, processing, freezing, storing, shipping and distributing blood components and substitutes. DBSS supports the tracking of blood donors and recipients (lookback) for infectious disease reporting requirements and provides a referral list of donors prohibited from donating blood. DBSS is currently in use at 30 full service (transfusion and donation) sites, 41 transfusion only sites, 5 donation only sites and 2 shipping centers. These facilities are located worldwide. The goal would be for this firm to assume all the manufacturing and maintenance responsibilities for DBSS that have been developed to support DoD's peacetime and wartime mission. The point of contact for this requirement is LCDR Greg Knight, Clinical Information Technology Program Office, 5113 Leesburg Pike, Sky 4, Suite 701, Falls Church, VA 22041.
