- Description
- The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, has a requirement to develop, manufacture, inspect, test and deliver 27,000 dual-purpose 20-millimeter combat rounds (6,000 improved XM1031 20MM Lightweight Multipurpose-Percussion (LMP-P) Cartridges, and 21,000 XM1032 20MM Lightweight Target Practice-Percussion (LTP-P) Cartridges) to meet the operational requirements of the RAH-66 Comanche Helicopter. The improved cartridge shall incorporate the following enhancements: a reduced time of flight; an inherent detonation delay feature allowing the round to initiate within soft targets; a hardened projectile forebody, providing light armor penetration capability; a percussion ignition system; enhanced performance; be environmentally acceptable; case mouth and primer pocket sealants; and a chemical Safe & Arm technology from the M940 MPT-SD cartridge. The XM1031 and XM1032 cartridges shall be designed to comply with the Interface Control Drawing (ICD) for the XM301 three-barrel gattling gun system manufactured by General Dynamics Armament Systems (GDAS), Burlington, Vermont. The ICD is proprietary to GDAS and all offerors are required to execute a non-disclosure agreement with GDAS before the ICD will be released. Offerors should obtain the ICD prior to submission of proposals. It is anticipated that the Request for Proposal will be released on or about 18 September 2000.
