Description
The government issuing this Request For Information (RFI) as part of a market survey for the following two types of 40MM non-lethal, M203 grenade launcher ammunition. The following are highlighted excerpts of the government's specifications for the two rounds. The Government intends to issue a draft of the entire specifications on or about 11SEP00 to all vendors responding, in writing, to this announcement. Vendor responses will be required by no later than 27SEP00. The government is seeking information and sources for the two rounds of ammunition. BA07 CARTRIDGE, 40MM, FOAM RUBBER BATON (FRB), NON-LETHAL Non-lethal foam rubber baton 40mm round for use in the M203 Grenade Launcher. The energetic components (i.e. primer, propellants, etc ) shall be selected by the contractor from Navy qualified formulations per SW010-AD-GTP-010 to meet performance specifications. The contractor shall maintain certificates of compliance for the material requirements of the Navy qualified formulations. Certifications shall be available upon request for each production lot. The cartridge shall be a true 40mm round and not sized for use in either a 37mm or 40mm weapon. Packaging of components shall be done in a manner which allows long term storage without degradation and meets Navy requirements. The average velocity of the projectile shall be 325 feet per second (fps) plus or minus 35 fps. The maximum individual velocity shall not be greater than 450 fps. A quantity of smokeless propellant shall be selected by the manufacturer to meet the performance specifications. NO black powder is allowed in the cartridge. BA08 RUBBER BALL CARTRIDGE Non-lethal rubber ball 40mm rounds for use in the M203 Grenade Launcher. The energetic components (i.e. primer, propellants, etc ) shall be selected by the contractor from Navy qualified formulations per SW010-AD-GTP-010 to meet performance specifications. The contractor shall maintain certificates of compliance for the material requirements of the Navy qualified formulations. Certifications shall be available upon request for each production lot. The cartridge shall be a true 40mm round and not sized for use in either a 37mm or 40mm weapon. Packaging of components shall be done in a manner which allows long term storage without degradation and meets Navy requirements. The cartridge will contain a minimum of twenty-two (22) each 0.60 caliber rubber ball projectiles in a cartridge case. Each rubber ball shall weigh nominally 34 5 grains. The hardness of the rubber balls shall be 60 10 in Durometer A scale. A quantity of smokeless propellant shall be selected by the manufacturer to meet the performance specifications. NO black powder is allowed in the cartridge. This notice does not constitute an invitation for Bids or a request for Proposal (RFP) and it is not a commitment by the government to procure subject material. No solicitation document exists at this time. The government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this request for information or otherwise pay for the information solicited.
