Description

The US Dept of Veterans Affairs is planning to negotiate a sole source contract with General Electric for the purchase of 1 each, AMX IV Portable X-Ray Unit for the Milwaukee WI VA Medical Center. This is considered to be a sole source because it is the only equipment that has all the following features: 270 degree rotation of the column, the largest in the industry, which allows greater felxibility in positioning of the unit in areas such as the OR, ICU, and CCU, where complexity of cases requires a wide degree of latitude in manipulating the equipment to optimize procedures; a closed loop constant generator which allows for consistent exposure times rather than varying times as would be the case with a falling load generator; a digital microprocessor which allows for consistent exposures relative to both KV and Mas, which is needed in order to reproduce identical exposures of the same patient on daily x-rays.
