Description

B-U. S. Dept of Commerce (DOC), National Marine Fisheries Services (NMFS) Office of Protected Resources, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Woods Hole, MA to provide services for histological assessment of inner & middle ear pathology of stranded beaked whales. This data will provide detailed inner ear histopathology for the assessment of type of damage from sonar used in the Bahamas in March 2000. The analyses will provide topographic maps of cytoarchitecture and pathology sites for impacted and control specimens. This data will provide crucial information for quantitative and descriptive documentation of the anatomical evidence for impact to ears obtained from the Bahamian stranding event as well as topographical analyses of ears of control animals of the same species. This work will provide data to the Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program 16 U. S. C. 1421 and data for the determination of injury due to noise pollution.16 U. S. C. 1371. This is a notice of intent and cannot be considered a solicitation, therefore no solicitation package exists. Award will be made using Simplified Acquisition Procedures. Reference 001263
