- Description
- THE PURPOSE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL SOURCES FOR THE EXCHANGE, RECYCLING OR SALE OF EXISTING M1A1 AND M1A2 TANK COMPONENTS AND SHOULD NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS A COMMITMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT TO AWARD A CONTRACT, NOR AS A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL. PM Abrams is contemplating entering into an agreement with a contractor to exchange existing components of M1 and M1A2 tanks for new components at a reduced price, however, a recycling program or potential sale of the components may be considered. M1 tank components not being used during the M1A2 System Enhancement Package (SEP) Upgrade program and M1A2 tank components not being used during the upcoming M1A2 SEP Retrofit program may be made available by the Government for exchange, recycling or sale to commercial contractors. Prior to any agreement involving the exchange, recycling or sale of the M1 or M1A2 components, contractors would need to provide the Government with their intended purpose for the components and proof of appropriate licenses (i.e. export, security, radioactive and nuclear handling, etc.) and associated documentation. All components of the M1 tank are potentially available except for the hull and attachments (skirts, topdeck, etc.), the Laser Range Finder (LRF), the Gunner's Auxiliary Sight (GAS), the transmission and the engine. Potentially available M1A2 components resulting from the upcoming M1A2 SEP Retrofit program include the Global Positioning System (GPS); Image Control Unit (ICU); Common Power Control Unit (CPCU), Thermal Imaging System (TIS); Hull/Turret Electronics Unit (H/TEU); Commander's Integrated Display (CID); Prime Power Interrupter (PPI); Radio Interface Unit (RIU); External Auxiliary Power Unit (EAPU); Fire Control Electronics Unit (FCEU); Hughes Aircraft Corp Dual Axis Head Assembly (HAC DAHA); and the Commander's Integrated Thermal Viewer (CITV) including slip ring, sight assembly and electronics unit. This list is not all-inclusive. Send letters of interest and general concepts no later than October 10, 2000 via email to searsg@tacom.army.mil.
