NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Health Effects Laboratory Division (HELD), TMMB, in Morgantown, WV purchased a 377 DNA Sequencer from Applied Biosystems as part of the "shared equipment" of their Core Facility used by the scientific investigators in HELD. NIOSH now intends to acquire an upgrade to the DNA Sequencer including the following additions, modifications and changes to the aforementioned unit: upgrade kit which includes Comb. 48 well Shark and Comb. 64 Well Shark and an upgrade to 96 lanes which includes DNA sequencing analysis V3.4.1 upgrade and Genescan analysis 3.1.2 upgrade. To ensure compatibility of the parts and software, the only source known is the original equipment manufacturer, Applied Biosystems, Foster City, CA; however, if there are vendors having the capabilities necessary to meet the stated requirements (compatible upgrades), they are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures and references to Brenda L. Goodwin, Reference: RI2000-040, DHHS, PHS, CDC, NIOSH, ALOSH, 1095 Willowdale Road, Morgantown, WV 26505. The Government intends to negotiate on a sole-source basis with Applied Biosystems, Foster City, CA, utilizing Simplified Acquisition Procedures. Organizations may submit information no later than September 15, 2000. Information received will generally be for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
