Description
This modification to solicitation F0561100R0522 is submitted to provide questions and answers generated by site visits held on 11 & 23 AUG 00, and preliminary reviews conducted by potential contractors. A cutoff date of 13 SEP 00 has been established for the submission of questions generated by the site visits or subsequent preliminary reviews of the synopsis/solicitation and related documentation. Proposals must be received NLT 3:00 P.M. MST 15 SEP 00 at the Operational Contracting Office, 8110 Industrial Drive, STE 200, USAF Academy, CO 80840-2315. 1. Interpretive Techniques: The exhibits targeted audience is mainly tour groups, parents of the cadets and school children tour groups. 2. Schematic/conceptual drawings shall be used to relay scale/proportion, graphic style, proposed color/material similar to Exhibit Plan design completed by Kimmel Graphic. The Kimmel Graphic Exhibit Plan is a guide for the contractor to follow in the final development of the exhibit displays, although we encourage each contractors unique graphic style to be represented. This is considered a "design/build" contract and should reflect both in cost estimate. 3. The exhibit plans are at no scale, but the attached floor plan is scaled. Again the exhibit plans should be used as a guide and the contractor shall recommend the appropriate scale of each exhibit in their specifications. 4. The existing displays are wall mounted with velcro, the only floor-mounted displays is a map, which shall be completely new, and several small uniform displays. 5. Electrical plans and reflected ceiling plans can be provided upon request. 6. The perimeter display units are only free-hanging photos on velcro, which can be re-used or new the exhibit contractor plans which ever. 7. The objective for each display exhibit should be self-explanatory (i.e. Athletics' should show what is available to the cadets in the way of sports). 8. The exterior stanchion sign size is: 30" high x 12" wide sign support. 9. Fonts shall be part of design, which is the responsibility of the contractor. 10. Digital Prepress includes scanning photo images, providing illustrations and layouts and manipulating them in the computer. 11. UV Exterior Phenolic embedded image is a sign that has the graphics sunken into the phenolic (plastis) material. The UV (ultraviolet) protective coating resists fading and usually comes with a 5-10 year outdoor warranty. 12. Interior elevations can be provided upon request. 13. The (4) existing display units are floor supported and mounted approx. 2" thick and two sided. Each display area is approx. 4' H x 16 W'. 14. The peripheral wall is dry wall with acoustical wall fabric attached. 15. The existing reception desk shall be removed by a separate Academy contract as well as the new reception desk. No new counter is needed. 16. Reference CLIN 005 1/16 interior grade laminate is a common plastic veneer material used mainly for kitchen counters and applied to a substrate for stability. 17. Reference CLIN 006 scroll material refers to the visual text on a computerized screen. 18. Reference CLIN 009 Superintendent's Welcome a photograph of the flag could be an alternative to vinyl wall graphics, but protected by glass or other material. 19. Reference CLIN 0010 Character Development Exhibit is located on outside/curved wall and first display. Curve and length of radius can be scaled off architectural floor plan, the height is approx. 10" of usable display background. Phenolic embedded image is a thermosetting resin or plastic, which has the image, embedded in it. Dedication roller a concept for displaying photo's that can be rotated. Scaled model of climbing wall that provides interaction by visitors. Remember this Exhibit Plan is only a guide, design must come from selected contractor. 20. Reference CLIN 0010, 0011, 0012, 0013 shall be of the same physical structure according to Exhibit Plan guide. 21. Reference CLIN 0013, page 14 is a continuation of exhibit Military Training. 22. Reference CLIN 0014 Mural size is approx. 10' high x 100' wide. 23. Reference CLIN 0015 the T-38 airplane is provided by and installed by the Academy. What is needed by this contract is a sign describing a T-38 mission and a roped off barrier for front of plane. 24. Reference CLIN0016 is shown on page 16 of Exhibit Plan and is an existing mounting system with metal supports and rigid mounting surface. Size is approx. 4' x 10' each x 2" thick where both sides will be used for displays. 25. Reference CLIN 0016, 0017, 0018, 0019 are structurally the same. 26. Reference CLIN 0020 film content will be provided submitted by the contractor and approved by the Academy. Design of this system is to be supplied by the contractor using their professional expertise. 27. Reference CLIN 0021, 0022, 0023 are identical in structure and are the backside of displays 0016, 0017, 0018. The operation slider and sortie are concepts for interactive type display and would have to be designed by the selected contractor. 28. Reference CLIN 0024 content for scrapbook would be the responsibility of the contractor to acquire and design whichever they feel appropriate. The item can be made availability from the Academy from selection and procurement shall be by contract. The size and design shall be the responsibility of the contractor to provide what is appropriate for an exhibit such as this. 29. Reference CLIN 0025 the content size shall take up space no larger than 42" x 42". The contents will be furnished by the Academy. The items are part of a design yet to be determined by the contractor. The contractor shall determine whether a museum standard vitrine is required. 30. Reference CLIN 0026 Football game is a conceptual design for an interactive game for children. The selected contractor will design this item. 31. Reference CLIN 0027 Challenge Course is again a conceptual design only and shall be designed by the selected contractor. 32. International language usage shall not be incorporated in this contract. 33. What is Cadet Work -- Not sure what this is referring to unless it refer to artwork done by Cadet and displayed periodically in the visitor center. 34. Locate the exhibits 7, 8, 14, 21, 22, 23 on floorplan: Exhibit #7/Falcon Gift Shop Sign/Entry: Located in lobby by reception desk. Exhibit #8/Thunderbird Grill Sign: Located in lobby by reception desk Exhibit #14/Glider Mural: Located at circular ceiling soffit in center of exhibit space. Exhibit #21/Careers: Located on backside of exhibit 16. Exhibit #22/Admissions: Located on back side of exhibit 18. Exhibit #23/More than Just A School: Located on backside of exhibit 19 35. Donor wall is not part of this contract; it is a Cadet artwork wall. 36. Academy notables is not part of this contract. 37. Circles in front of the center displays represent building support columns. 38. Exhibits 16, 17, 18, 19 are shown on the floor plan between columns, but they are mounted on the floor supported arched displays which are supported by metal tubular columns. 39. The columns are approx. 18" in diameters and are approx. 10' in height. 40. The current exhibit design executed by Kimmel Graphics is basically a guide not necessarily a final design. We encourage your own design input. 41. The proposal package is limited to 50 pages, but design presentation boards maybe submitted in addition to the proposal package. A maximum number and size has not been established, but we would recommend no larger than 24" x 36" boards. 42. Elevations and ceiling plans can be sent out at anytime. 43. The perimeter wall is poured in place concrete then firred out with gypsum wall board and acoustical wallcovering applied. 44. The floor is poured concrete throughout. 45. Installation of the exhibits can be anchored into floor/ceiling and walls. 46. The low wall opposite the perimeter wall shall remain untouched and left in its natural state. END
