Description

The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Birmingham, AL intends to negotiate with Bell & Howell Company, 200 North Zeeb Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48106 for renewal of a one-year subscription for a web-based, prepackaged system (ProQuest Direct) that contains full-image archival medical journals for the period of 10-1-00 through 9-30-01. The database shall include but is not limited to the following features: cover to cover images in full format including graphs and photos. Should be able to print ASCII full text or PDF files. The database should have a windows look. , be PC accessible, run with Microsoft NT platform, graphic support through adobe acrobat reader. Subjects included in the database are medical, nursing, clinical, pharmacy and patient education/consumer health. Price should include an institutional license for access to all staff; all contents and access should be made available through the database. Payment should be a one-time transaction and should not require additional funding through the subscription period. Articles must be copyright cleared with no additional charges. Database must provide cross-structural indexing and searching of database subscription. Search by keyword and publication must be provided based on Boolean operators. Must be able to send search results and articles over e-mail. Archival information should be at least 5 years, whenever, possible information should be updated frequently and kept current with new issues of titles. Customer service/support should be part of the contract agreement. There should also be a mechanism for providing statistics as to database use and content used. Any offeror purporting to be able to furnish this service may submit a written response demonstrating such capability by September 28, 2000.
