- Description
- The USAFE Contracting Squadron, Rhine Ordnance Barracks, Kaiserslautern, Germany is searching for companies interested in and capable of performing the operation and maintenance of the San Vito Solar Observatory, San Vito Italy. The contractor must obtain a Facility US Secret Clearance to perform this service. The site is a Solar Electo-Optical Network (SEON) incorporating both a Solar Observing Optical Network (SOON) and a Radio Solar Telescope Network (RSTN). The contractor would be responsible to provide solar optical and radio observations, analyses, and reports using the SOON telescope (AN/FMQ-7), RSTN telescope (AN/FRR-95), and their associated computer subsystems (equipment may be substituted or upgraded by different makes and models). The contractor would be responsible to perform preventative, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance of the equipment required in accomplishing this mission. The Air Force will provide some formal training for operators and maintenance personnel. The observatory is located in a remote area with minimal support. It is located between the two cities of San Vito Dei Normanni and Brindisi Italy. Based on activity of other organizations, the observatory may be the only United States operation at San Vito. The contractor would be responsible for grounds maintenance, minor maintenance of facilities and may be responsible for guard services, mail runs and other support/maintenance functions. The closest logistical support is located in Naples Italy (approximately 3.5 hrs drive). This contract is anticipated to be a one-year basic with four one-year options. Please submit your company_s capabilities package (not exceeding 15 pages) and all questions to Todd Mathie by mail, FAX or email. All contractors who respond will be added to the source list.
