- Description
- High Performance Nanostructured Anion Getters Technology Partnership Opportunity In collaboration with the University of North Texas and the University of New Mexico, Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) (Carlsbad, New Mexico) has received funding from the US Department of Energy to begin a research and development project in high performance anion getters beginning October 1, 2000 for three years. The project is focused on using SNL-developed nanotechnologies to synthesize a set of nanostructured mesoporous materials that can be used as high performance anion getters for removal of environmentally significant anions such as arsenate. These materials are expected to be much more effective than the existing anion getters based on conventional materials and synthesis procedures. The anion getters developed in this project are expected to have a wide range of applications including environmental clean-up, radioactive or non-radioactive waste management, chemical separation, water treatment, and other industries. For example, the EPA has proposed to change the standard for arsenic in drinking water from 50ppm to 5ppm. The market for arsenic removal in municipal water supply is estimated to be $22 billion nationwide. The mesoporous materials selected for development in this project are designed to be particularly useful for arsenic removal. SNL proposes to make the high performance nanostructured anion getters technology available to companies partnering with Sandia through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) and a license agreement. The research funding is estimated to be $500K/year for three years. To date, Sandia has allocated $250K/year to this research for 3 years. The initial phases of research are now complete and this new funding is dedicated to development of materials for specific applications. Sandia is interested in commercial applications that will leverage the funding and establish engineering approaches and generate intellectual property for various generic or specific applications. For further information, please respond by mail or fax to Alane Dulski by November 15, 2000 at: Sandia National Laboratories, MS 1380, P.O. Box 5800, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87185-1380. FAX: (505) 843-4163. Please indicate the date and title of this CBD notice and the type of partnering agreements your company would be most interested in entering into.
