- Description
- It is the intent of The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District to award a contract for the construction of a double-leaf bascule bridge over the Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway (AIW), Albermarle and Chesapeake Canal in the community of Great Bridge, City of Chesapeake, Virginia. This solicitation includes the construction of the bascule bridge, construction of a bridge operator's house, demolition of existing buildings and other designated items in the construction area, asbestos material removal and disposal, construction of bridge approach embankments, providing utility connections, providing temporary and permanent signage, providing erosion and sediment control, removal and disposal of petroleum contaminated soil and groundwater, and other specified work necessary to construct this bridge. The successful Contractor will be responsible for coordination with the Roadway Contractor (separate construction contract), the utility companies, the City of Chesapeake, the USACE Norfolk District, the USCG, and the new Bridge Operator. The Contractor will be responsible for providing temporary access to properties adjacent to the project area. Approximately 10,200 LF of 18" concrete pilings will be driven for the bridge and the operator's house. Approximately 10,400 LF of 14" concrete pilings will be driven for the fender system. The Contractor will be required to coordinate all planned waterway closures with the USCG. The estimated construction price range is between $10,000,000 and $25,000,000. A pre-bid conference and site visit will be held on or about 24 October 2000. Questions may be submitted in writing to the contracting office POC prior to the conference. The solicitation will be provided in an electronic format. free of charge to all registered plan holders. The media selected for solicitations and amendments shall be solely at the discretion of the Government; accordingly, interested bidders shall be responsible for monitoring the Internet for amendments. The media through which the Government chooses to issue this solicitation is compact disk and/or Internet. The solicitation will not be issued in paper format. Registered plan holders may be notified of amendments by facsimile, floppy disk, compact disk and/or postings to the Internet.
