- Description
- The US Dept of Veterans Affairs, Great Lakes Acquisition Center, is planning to negotiate a sole source contract with Smith and Nephew for the purchase of one each, Dyonics Endoscopy System to be used for open heart leg vein recovery at the Milwaukee WI VA Medical Center. This is considered to be a sole source because it is the only system that will permit standardization at VA Milwaukee and that also will increase maneuverability and reduce the risk of infection. Standardization is critical because it allows interchangeability of parts during medical procedures if individual components fail for some reason; and it also decreases staff training costs and increases staff competence. In comparison with other systems evaluated, the Smith and Nephew system positions the cord in a way, and has a smaller-sized camera head, which increases maneuverability and makes it easier to view the vein which in turn decreases chances for trauma to the vein and the potential for infection. Other sources that believe they can meet VA needs must furnish product information and references to this office by no later than 4:30 PM on Sept 25, 2000. Information may be mailed or it may be faxed to: 414-902-5440.
