Description
NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quote a 6.0 m electric field boom assembly for sounding rocket use and a 6.0 with 1.0 m rigid extensions and dual spheres for sounding rocket use. The 6.0 electric field boom assembly described herein shall, upon an electrical command, symmetrically deploy two opposing (180degrees apart) spherical aluminum sensors (6.4cm diameter) compactly housed in a relatively small, cylindrical sounding rocket payload. The boom shall have wires that deploy within their opposing elements in order to electrically connect to electronic components housed in the spherical sensors. (The electronic components are not to be provided as part of this procurement). The final (deployed) configuration shall enable the sensors and boom elements to lie along a single measurement vector which itself shall be situated in a plane perpendicular to the central (spin) axis of the payload. After deployment, the deployed boom shall be 6.0 m tip-to-tip. A 6.0 boom assembly with 1.0 m rigid extensions and dual spheres for sounding rocket use. This shall, upon an electrical command, enable two opposing (180degrees apart) rigid boom units (1.4m each) with two spherical sensors each (separated by 1.0m) to fold down and then deploy radially outwards an additional 3 m each. The entire assembly must be compactly housed in a relatively small, cylindrical sounding rocket payload. Alter deployment, the deployed boom shall be 6.0 m tip-to tip. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Note 26. The DPAS Rating for this procurment is DO C9. The anticipated release date of RFQ 696-80088 (with detailed specifications)is on or about 10/23/00 with an anticipated quote due date of on or about 11/3/00. All qualified responsible sources may submit a quote which shall be considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See NASA Specific Note "B".
