- Description
- This is modification 2 to the Special Notice entitled SPACEFLIGHT LAPTOP COMPUTERS, 9-BJ2-57-0-14SN, which was posted on April 7, 2000. The following questions were received regarding specification requirements on evaluation laptops and have been addressed below: 1. QUESTION: Current industry standards only require a port replicator rather than a docking station. In regard to the NASA spec, it is requested that vendors provide a docking station. Is this a mandatory requirement? ANSWER: Yes, a docking station is required for some of our applications. 2. QUESTION: Is it acceptable to provide software MPEG rather than hardware MPEG cards? ANSWER: Software provided MPEG capability is sufficient and a separate card is not required. 3. QUESTION: There is a requirement listed that the Laptops have the ability to run off 28 volt. I've had some discussions with industry experts who inform me that anything over 19 volts could short the processor. Is it possible to allow 19 volt standard? ANSWER: Yes, it is acceptable for the laptop to operate on 19 Volts. It is mandatory for the laptop and the power converter 'brick' to operate, and charge the internal battery, from 120 volts, 60HZ AC, and 220volts, 50HZ AC wall outlets. In addition, it is desired to have a power converter brick/s that would operate off a 28volt, DC, and 120 volt DC source. Finally, it is desired that one brick support all sources (auto-sensing; 120ac, 120DC, 220 ac, 28dc). NASA understands that the 28 volt DC and 120 volt DC are non-industry standards power sources. If you are interested in submtting a laptop for evaluation, we are evaluating the units through December 1, 2000. Please contact the NASA Procurement Office, Procurement Analyst, Venessa Jankowski at 281-483-4162.
