Description
It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to negotiate to acquire, depending on the availability of copy in outside sources, core- or copy-cataloged bibliographic records for 1,700 -- 2,000 English language monographs. The project for the core or copy cataloging of English language monographs consists of bibliographic description, authority work, subject analysis, and classification assignment. The services will include: 1) searching for available cataloging copy in outside bibliographic sources (e.g., Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (OCLC) or the Library of Congress (LC)); 2) applying the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd edition (Revised 1998) (AACR2R), NLM's cataloging manual, NLM's copy cataloging manual, Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) standards and core cataloging guidelines for books, as well as Library of Congress Rule Interpretations (LCRIs) to descriptive cataloging and creation and maintenance of name and series access points; and 3) assigning NLM Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) descriptors and classification numbers to each monograph using the NLM Classification or, when appropriate, the Library of Congress classification schemes. NLM will supply equipment during the course of the contract period. The work shall be performed by remote access to the NLM Voyager system, the integrated library system used by the library for the creation and editing of bibliographic and authority records. This contract is 100% set aside for small businesses. It is anticipated that a one-year fixed price, indefinite delivery (indefinite quantity) type contract will be awarded. The contract will contain options for four (4) successive on-year periods and options for additional quantities during each year. The Request for Proposal (RFP) will be available approximately fifteen (15) calendar days from publication of this announcement. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which will be considered by the National Library of Medicine. Copy of the RFP may be obtained by writing to the National Library of Medicine, Office of Acquisitions Management, Building 38A, Room B1N17, 8600 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20894, Attn. Liem T. Nguyen, Contract Specialist. Telephone and fax requests will not be accepted. See Numbered Note 1. *****
