Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology intends to negotiate on a sole source basis the services of JEOL, USA Inc., 11 Dearborn Road, Peabody, MA 01961-6043, under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Subpart 13.106-1(b) Soliciting from a Single Source. This procurement is for a fully guaranteed, on-site preventive maintenance service contract for: one(1) JSM-8401 Scanning Microscope, one(1) FCS (Four Crystal Spectrometer), one(1) JSM-6400 Scanning Microscope and various JEOL ancillary devices. JEOL Inc. is the sole manufacturer of this equipment, ancillary devices and replacement parts. Many components and software are proprietary. JEOL Inc. maintains a staff of service engineers who are qualified to service these unique instruments. JEOL Inc. is the only source for timely, qualified maintenance and/or repairs, which will maintain the original specifications of these expensive, sophisticated instruments and ancillary devices. It is anticipated as a result of this solicitation that a Firm Fixed Price Purchase order will be issued within 15 days of this notice.. The Period of Performance is through September 30, 2001. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, the Government will consider all responses received within 15 days after publication of this synopsis. A solicitation is not available. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed order based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
