Description

Work consists of erection, assembly and painting two sets of horizontally framed steel miter gates (four gate leaves). These gates are to replace the existing lock miter gates in the 1200' lock chamber. Each gate leaf is approximately 71 feet tall and 62 feet wide. Gates are to be assembled from gate sections and components provided by the government. There are six fabricated sections weighing approximately 50 tons each that are to be welded together to form each gate leaf. Work also includes prestressing the gate diagonals, installing miter and quoin blocks, installing the fenders and miter recess latches and other gate components. The work is to be performed at the Wharf Extension at McAlpine Lock and Dam in Louisville, Kentucky. This facility provides the contractor with a work area and piers capable of supporting the gate during erection. The gates are to be stored on the piers after they are assembled. Final installation of the gates in the lock chamber is NOT part of this effort. This is a sealed bid procurement.
