- Description
- This is a market survey to locate potential sources for a preferably Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) configuration management system with database management, inventory control, Internet-based accessibility, and security access control. In addition, it shall be easy-to-use, compatible with a multitude of file formats, have data revision control, and the ability to work on low bandwidth connections, such as modems. The system will be used to manage the growing number of documents, drawings and databases associated with the Defense Satellite Communication System (DSCS) sites worldwide. The system will operate as a Department of Defense (DOD) Automated Information System (AIS). The AIS will include Unclassified and Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU) and For Official Use Only (FOUO) data. The system shall access databases and files and act as an interface to view or handle various commercial applications. It shall also allow for the retrieval of files and the ability to complete secure transactions. The system shall have controls to enforce the read and write privileges of different users. It shall also be flexible enough to allow the user to create customized reports and to allow for the system administrator to add new data to the system. The system must incorporate configuration management for the various files amongst DSCS sites. This database shall also incorporate inventory control for multiple sites. Preferably, it should be able to pull some information from CAD drawings and integrate the information into the database. Internet-based accessibility shall be incorporated and allow for current data to be accessed in real time. Due to the magnitude of DSCS data, the browser should incorporate an easy-to-use viewable format. Authentication, authorization and accounting security features shall be implemented. Users should be granted access to the system on a multilevel architecture consisting of users, department administrators and a main system administrator. Users shall only be able to access information they require as set by the system administrator. Users shall be able to access the system through any Internet connection. File formats to be either incorporated or launchable from the system include standardized file formats for drawings, documents and spreadsheets including AutoCAD files, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint slides and Access and Oracle databases. In addition, other file types may be added as may be needed. The files shall control data revision such as editing and "redlining" and should save these changes into separate files. The files will be saved in an agreed upon version type of the specific software they are contrived from. The system will ideally operate on a Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) architecture and allow for the backup of data. Therefore, the maximum amount of data shall be retained in the event of loss in the system. Any interested sources with suitable configuration management systems must send technical information to include, but not limited to, detailed product specifications, schedule availability and initial and life cycle cost information, NLT December 8, 2000, to Building 209, ATTN: AMSEL-RD-ST-SS-ST (Mandy Zwirn), Fort Monmouth, NJ 07703. All questions should be addressed to Mandy Zwirn, (732) 532-3754. E-mail address: Mandy.Zwirn@mail1.monmouth.army.mil
