Description
This is not a notice for a solicitation. This is a Request for Information (RFI); neither a draft statement of work nor specifications are available. The information received will be used as part of a market survey. The recent launch of "FirstGov" on the World Wide Web is a significant step toward providing a single point of access to government information and services. FirstGov is evolving into a site that citizens can easily use to rapidly find, get and use government information and services tailored to their needs. But at this early stage in its development FirstGov cannot yet offer geographic information and services by location, a capability that will truly improve government accountability for Americans. The Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) is requesting information to this effect. Working with the President's Management Council and many other federal partners, the FGDC is interested in determining interest in spatially enabling an electronic Federal government. There is no specific format for submission of information. However, all submissions should identify the following: (1) name and contact information; (2) the nature of the idea, technology or approach; (3) the importance or priority of the idea, technology, or approach to e-government, and the extent to which it enhances government accountability; (4) readiness for broad use and expected time and resources required to implement; and (5) the degree to which solutions do or will conform with United States and international data and technology standards for geospatial data, services, and information accessibility. Information on how to become a partner in FirstGov can be found at http://www.firstgov.gov. The government does not offer funding for any information submitted in response to this announcement. The initial period for submission of responses is until November 22, 2000. At that time all submissions will be reviewed and responses provided. The announcement will remain open for additional responses until January 31, 2001 after which a second review will be conducted. The Federal Geographic Data Committee web site is located at http://www.fgdc.gov. This site provides detailed information on National Spatial Data Infrastructure partnerships, standards, Framework Data, and the National Spatial Data Clearinghouse. All vendors interested in provided information on the above are invited to submit information. No contract will be awarded as a result of this announcement. Any subsequent solicitation will be synopsized prior to its release. The Government will not pay for information provided in response to this synopsis.
