Description
Trawl vessels with a minimum registered length of 120 ft, and a minimum continuous horsepower from the main engine of 1,000 are needed to perform a cruise to survey the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska in February and March 2001. The primary objective is to determine the biomass and distribution of Pacific cod and walleye pollock in sea lion critical habitat to help determine the potential impact of fisheries on Steller sea lions. Three vessels are needed, and may be provided by one or more contractors (multiple contract awards will be allowed). Vessels must be able to tow standard survey trawl, maintain a minimum cruising speed of at least 16.8 km/hr (9 nm/hr) in low sea states, and have fuel capacity for approximately 20 days of continuous fishing operations. Vessels must be completely rigged for trawling including a stern ramp and gallows or gantry, two net reels, split trawl winches, an auto-trawl system, and have trawl cable leading directly from winches to the gallows trawl blocks. The government will provide trawls, trawl doors, and rigging. Vessels must have at least 600 sq ft of clear deck area for sampling equipment, a protected area on deck or covered area aft of the house, electric power outlet on deck, dry storage areas, at least two deck bins, crane capable of lifting 5 mt, office area, freezer storage, adequate fresh water for 2-weeks, accommodations for crew and a 5-person scientific party. The minimum crew shall consist of Captain, lead-fisher, engineer-fisher, second fisher, and cook-fisher. Two vessels will be chartered for 28 days, and one vessel will be chartered for 14 days. One vessel to begin and end in Kodiak, AK. One vessel will begin and end in Dutch Harbor, AK. One vessel to begin in Dutch Harbor, AK or possibly Sand Point, AK. All vessels to begin between February 1 to 15, 2001. All responsible, responsive offers will be considered.
