Description
PART: U.S. GOVERNMENT PROCUREMENTS SUBPART: SERVICES CLASSCOD: A-Research and Development OFFADD: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Seeks Partnerships with Industry to Commercialize and Market the Open Modular Architecture Controller technology Description: The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking U.S. companies interested in commercializing the Open Modular Architecture Controller (OMAC) technology developed at LLNL. LLNL is seeking industry partners interested in OMAC technology for applications such as: machine tool controls, programmable logic controls, and process controls. LLNL has developed a controller that represents the first implementation of the OMAC Users Group applications programming interfaces (APIs) for machine control. This implementation was built to prove the viability of the OMAC Users Group APIs and to give companies a head start toward that vision of a truly open controller. This implementation is a completely software-based controller with no special hardware requirements. It uses a standard PC running Windows NT with RTX real-time extensions. The OMAC component-based architecture allows for the development of an integrated design environment to support the OMAC Users Group's vision of being able to "wire" together controllers from readily available components, conceivably from different manufacturers, and with different specializations to meet different control needs. The software is implemented in Java for maximum platform flexibility. Documentation consists of "how to" manuals along with javadoc, and uml diagrams for each software component. This code in development to be licensed consists of a set of controller software components, sample controllers, the integrated design environment, and documentation. Updates to this code will be available to the licensee through the summer of 2001. Companies interested in working with LLNL to commercialize the technology should provide a written Letter of Interest that includes a description of corporate capability relevant to commercialization of the technology and basic corporate information. Respondents are encouraged to provide ancillary documentation such as annual reports, corporate resumes, and technical publications. THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT All Letters of Interest must be received within 45 days of this announcement. Please send Letters of Interest to Catherine Elizondo, Business Development Specialist, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 7000 East Avenue, Mail Stop L-795, Livermore CA 94550-9234, Attention: CBD-01-001/272
