Description
This is a special notice being used by NSWCPHD to determine public interest in utilization of a dedicated test platform for the purpose of variable Government/Contractor weapon and sensor systems testing. The Surface Warfare Test Ship (SWTS) a decommissioned DD 963 Class Ship managed by NAVSEA Port Hueneme, would be based at Port Hueneme, California, operated at Point Mugu Sea Range. The Test Ship will contain space, weight, power and support systems capable of being operated remotely. The SWTS will be able to provide the following: 1) testing in end users' at sea environment which is difficult to simulate; 2) discovery of problems prior to production; 3) piggy-back testing at less cost; 4) schedule flexibility; 5) less reliance upon Fleet assests; and 6) mobility and geographic flexibility (proximity to Fleet exercises). NAVSEA Port Hueneme has the following assets: 1) deep water port; 2) Sea Range access; 3) experienced workforce; 4) Environmental clearances; and 5) ship control and weapons control infrastructure in-place. Interested parties with projects or products that may require at sea testing aboard a SWTS are requested to provide the following: 1) A short description of the project or product; 2) A brief description of types of test data desired; 3) An estimate of the size, weight, power, and other support services required for a project or product proposed to be tested; 4) The amount of time estimated for installation, test and deinstallation; and 5) Special test requirements. Interested sources are to provide the requested information to Commander, PHD Naval Surface Warfare Center, Code 1E12, Attn: Sherri Trask, 4363 Missile Way, Building 5, Port Hueneme, CA 93043-4307 no later than December 08, 2000. Information should be provided in Microsoft Word format, no more than 10 pages. Additional information about the proposed SWTS may be found at http://www.phdnswc.navy.mil/Events/ and at http://www.phdnswc.navy.mil/Business/TechSharing.asp. Questions may be submitted to Mr. Chuck Hogle at (805) 228-8225 or e-mail hoglecl@phdnswc.navy.mil. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes only and should not be construed as a commitment by the U.S. Government. This is not a solicitation announcement for proposals and no contract will be awarded from this synopsis. Reimbursement will not be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this synopsis and any follow-up information requests.
