Description
The Department of Energy Idaho Operations Office intends to make multiple awards to industries and universities for special technical expertise. The program consists of a Generation IV Technology Roadmap which will be developed to guide the planning and execution of research and development (R&D) needed to overcome barriers for the use of nuclear energy to meet future energy needs. To identify these R&D requirements systematically and convincingly, the Roadmap will (a) articulate a forward-thinking vision of where nuclear energy needs to be in the future (well beyond 2030), (b) establish a set of goals for nuclear system development that fulfills this vision, (c) characterize the shortcomings of current nuclear systems technology in relation to these goals, and (d) recommend the R&D advances needed to overcome the limitations and achieve the stated goals. There is no formal solicitation and this is not considered a request for proposals/quotes. No solicitation document is available. No contract will be awarded on the basis of offers received in response to this notice. The Generation IV Technical Working Group Team Members will: Individual Team Members. The work scope for the individual team members of the Technical Working Groups (TWGs) is 1. Prepare for the actual roadmapping process. 2. Identify technical uncertainties, assess current capabilities versus those uncertainties, and identify capability gaps and associated R&D targets. 3. Define the R&D activities and schedule necessary to support the design and certification of innovative nuclear energy systems not later than 2030 and issue a draft Roadmap. 4. Review, revise, release, and implement the Roadmap. Develop and issue an R&D Plan that provides the sequencing and initial cost estimates of research tasks, and identifies potential national and international collaborations. The Generation IV Technical Working Group Co-Chairs will: Co-Chairs. In addition to the above work scope, co-chairs are responsible for the overall coordination of their TWG's efforts. The co-chairs are responsible for writing and editing roadmap contributions, integrating direction from the Roadmap Integration Team into their efforts, and setting-up and running the meetings.
