Description

CHPS is a program to develop scaleable integrated hybrid electric power systems for future combat vehicles by conducting experiments in a re-configurable laboratory, and developing component technologies and virtual prototyping. The Army plans to continue performance of ongoing Tasks 1, 2, 3 and 4 under the scope of work for DARPA Contract MDA972-97-C-0032 to enhance and operate the Systems Integration Laboratory, develop and perform parametric experiments on advanced components, and mature the virtual prototype models. This effort will emphasize optimizing power and energy management, investigating the impact of traction drive topologies, evaluating hybrid control strategies, optimizing fuel economy, and reducing weight and volume for the Combat Hybrid Power System (CHPS). The US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM-Warren) will negotiate on a sole source basis under FAR 6-302.1 with Science Applications International Corporation of San Diego, CA for this effort. TACOM-Warren plans to issue a supplemental agreement modification to the existing DARPA cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to extend the period of performance and add $3,000,000 to fund this additional effort. No solicitation will be issued. The target award date is 30 Jan 01. See numbered Notes 22 and 26.
