Description

The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments command is conducting a market survey to identify potential qualified sources for production of M249 Bipod Assemblies. The steel for two critical components of the bipod, the upper bipod leg (left and right) is hard to obtain. The steel is cold rolled strip, steel DIN 16 MnCr 5 (1.7131). Approximately 3,500 pounds of 1/8th sheet is necessary to fabricate the quantity of bipods needed. Given that this material can be obtained, the services sought include metal forming, investment casting, heat treatment, chemical coating, final assembly, quality assurance, inspection and laboratory testing in order to insure a product in full conformance with appropriate specifications and standards required by the United States Government when supplying material for use in military operations, in general, and specifically weapon production.
