Description
The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA), acting as the operator of the Gemini Observatory, is seeking a firm to fabricate a steel instrument support assembly which will support an infrared detector (ABU) on the Gemini 8M Telescope. The assembly includes fabrication of a structural frame consisting of 2"x2" rectangular steel pipe using full penetration welds. The final welded structure (approximately 700x700x400 mm) must then be precision machined to meet tolerances. Other components include precision machining a 520x850 mm plate, and turning a 5 angle inside an aluminum block. Persons or firms interested in being considered for this work should fax a one page letter of interest to 520-318-8590 by no later than Friday 15 December, 2000. Faxes should reference announcement No. N201673, and be addressed to the Gemini Contracts Manager. The Gemini Observatory is an international astronomical observatory which operates two 8 meter telescopes, one located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the other on Cerro Pachon in Chile. The Gemini partners include the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Australia. The Gemini Observatory is operated by AURA under contract to the National Science Foundation.
