- Description
- The U.S. General Accounting Office intends to solicit and award a contract to Bell South Telecommunications, Inc. for local telephone services. The contract will be for a base period with nine (9) renewal options beginning October 1, 2000. A proposed contract will be awarded on a sole source basis since local services can only be obtained by the local telephone company. Bell South Telecommunications, Inc. cited on this action, under the authority granted by the Federal Communications Commission and the State Public Services/Utilities Commissions (FCC&SPS/UC), is the local telephone company and as such, is the ONLY provider of the commercial service(s) within the area. The contract provides for digital voice telecommunications systems/services which will provide for flexible management of telecommunications and achieve maximum operational capabilities and cost efficiencies. The proposed contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one (1) source under the authority of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received within forty-five (45) days (thirty days if award is issued under an existing basic ordering agreement) after date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
