Description
MARKET SURVEY, BEDDING MATERIALS. The Navy is seeking to improve bedding materials used on Navy ships and submarines. Bedding items include sheets (flat and fitted), removable mattress cover, pillow and pillowcase, and blanket. The Navy is particularly interested in flame resistance and comfort. Other qualities of interest are abrasion resistance, tear strength, durability, air permeability, and dimensional stability after repeated shipboard launderings. Considerations of cost, weight, durability, flame resistance, performance in the marine environment, comfort, and the use of hypoallergenic materials will be significant discriminators. Additional material characteristics for the blanket include lightweight construction, insulative values consistent with comfort and warmth, resistance to pilling, softness to touch, and little to no lint generation during the drying process. The Navy is also pursuing a special mattress cover material for medical berths. The material must be resistant to blood and bodily fluids, and be able to withstand frequent cleaning using hospital grade disinfectants. It also must be capable of being cleaned with standard medical wipe down practices that exceed soap and water, and retain flame resistant properties and durability after numerous cleanings. Vendors of bedding material that believe their products meet these requirements, and are interested in participating in this investigation, are invited to submit samples of products at no cost to the Navy, along with supporting performance and compliance information to the following Navy support contractor: M. Rosenblatt & Son an AMSEC LLC Group, Attn: Dan Jent, 2341 Jefferson Davis Highway, Suite 500, Arlington, VA 22202. The Navy may destructively test any samples provided, but in any event, none of the samples provided for testing will be returned. The Navy does not intend to directly award a contract on the basis of this market survey or otherwise pay for the information or sample materials solicited herein. However, although no commitment can be made, the ultimate intent of the Navy is to procure improved bedding. To be included in this investigation, vendors must respond no later than 16 January 2001. A copy of the forwarding letter should be sent to the Naval Sea Systems Command, Attention: Robert Blakemore (SEA 05L5), 2531 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, VA 22242-5160, or faxed to: 703-602-6802, or e-mailed to BlakemoreRF@NAVSEA.NAVY.MIL
