Description

Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with H&S Machine for the Pacific Marine Environmental Lab (PMEL). Purpose of contract is to machine parts for the ATLAS2 mooring instrumentation. Parts include white PET plastic sensor module cases and endcaps and black PET plastic sensor module endcaps. The TAO project has a compelling need to replace current near surface sensors made from black PET plastic with ones made from white PET. PMEL recently discovered that the black PET sensors were absorbing heat from sunlight as deep as 40 meters and corrupting temperature data. PMEL must systematically replace the near surface sensors throughout the array. H&S Machine possesses original drawings and has manufactured PET sensors for PMEL. No other source can manufacture in time to meet urgent need (completion of 585 total by 2/15/01).
