Description
The Central Texas Veterans HCS intends to negotiate a sole source contract with Patterson Dental Co under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1 for 2 ea CERAC 3 acquisitions units and 1 CERAC 3 milling system. The benefit of this system is the ability to produce high quality ceramic restorations during one patient visit. The benefit of all ceramic restorations is the material used during the milling process. The ceramic material is 4 micron particle size extruded material, and has the same strength as enamel. This type of restoration will provide a more permanent restoration, eliminating the need to replace restorations once the ceramic inlays, onlays, and crowns are bonded into position. The ceramic material maintains the same integrity as enamel, not wearing the opposing dentition prematurely. Traditionally when a patient presents with a fractured cusp or defective margins on an existing restoration, we routinely provide the patient with a crown, removing healthy tooth structure in order for the crown to function properly. When using the Cerac 3 we will be able to conserve healthy tooth structure and bond the ceramic restoration in place, strengthening the tooth to 103%-110% of its original strength. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice, is solely with the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. All inquiries must be received no later than 3:00p.m. on January 4, 2001 to the contracting officer indicated above.
