Description

The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) announces its annual Munitions Executive Summit and Munitions Advance Planning Brief to Industry (APBI), February 12-14, 2001, in McLean, Virginia. The Army transformation has begun and for the past 18 months the attention of this community has been on wheels vs. tracks, diesels vs. turbines and light vs. heavy. While the Army has also focused on "Revolution in Military Logistics" (with a smaller logistics footprint/ velocity management), there has been little attention focused specifically on armament and munitions. That appears to be changing with much more discussion on lethality for the Brigade Combat Teams and the Future Combat System. This Summit will focus on the challenges facing this revision in thinking and approach with an emphasis on technologies to support the future vision. It will also highlight some of the current thrusts to assure that our system is not stagnating, but rather reforming itself to improve. Partnering, base restructuring and other similar initiatives will have long-lasting effects on this community and our nation's future capabilities.
