Description
As part of an overall initiative to reduce its operating costs, the Birmingham VA Medical Center (VAMC), 700 South 19th Street, Birmingham, AL 35233 and the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center (VAMC), 3701 Loop Road East, Tuscloosa, AL 35404 wish to test the potential for reducing the total cost of delivering medical supplies to patients by forming partnerships between commercial distributors of medical and surgical supplies and VA medical centers. The Birmingham and Tuscaloosa Medical Centers, wish to incorporate in its test the commercial process used by distributors to attract and service new customers. A Pre-Solicitation Conference will be held with all interested parties on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at 10:00 AM (CST). The meeting will convene in room 139, located at 807 20th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35205. After the 10:00 am meeting, all parties will travel to the Tuscaloosa Medical Center to view that facility. The distance from the Birmingham VA Medical Center to the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center is fifty-one (51) miles. Directions to the Tuscaloosa facility will be provided at the 10:00 am meeting. All parties are responsible for the own travel arrangements and expenses. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the Scope of Work, and receive private sector comments for consideration and possible inclusion in the resulting solicitation. The annual volume of sales is estimated at 3.5 million dollars, the VA intends on awarding a multi-year (3 yr) contract. The successful distributor shall be expected to maintain an extensive medical and surgical product line inventory. It will have the capability and skill to distribute that inventory in low units of measure to and including all end use distribution points (deliver to dock, deliver to floor, deliver to nurse servers or nurse closets) in the VAMC and its satellites. The successful distributor will also have the capability and skill to provide complete inventory management, value-added analysis and process improvement. An advance copy of the proposed Scope of Work may be obtained prior to the Pre-Solicitation Conference by written request to the above address or FAX (205) 933-4489. Interested parties are encouraged to submit questions to be answered at the conference in advance. To ensure space availability, prospective attendees should notify the contracting officer, by written notice, name of company and individuals attending NLT January 22, 2001. Participation will be limited to no more than 3 persons from each company. This is not a request for proposals.
