- Description
- This is a combined synopsis/solicitation. A written solicitation will not be issued. The Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) intends to receive quotes for the purchase of Lotus Notes Release 5 (R5) support services. The Statement of Work is provided now -- 1) Scope: This will be a labor hour type contract. The following tasks are within the scope of this requirement. System and Network Design, Development and Implementation 2) Specific Tasks: The contractor will commence work on Task 1 for the Intelligent Desktop System upon receipt of this task order. The contractor shall develop a Lotus Notes Release 5(R5) desktop automation system that capitalizes on state of the art technology to integrate knowledge repositories, collaborative data bases and mid-tier business applications into a single, desktop delivery system. That system will show a variety of user-customizable information sources simultaneously in a series of panes on a Notes R5 desktop. The system will have the following components: 1. A user profile that identifies a specific user's data needs, both from an application standpoint and from a corporate information standpoint 2. An E-mail in-box that provides summary information by sender 3. A calendar 4. A web link pane that activates the default browser 5. A workload summary pane that displays summarized data from an individual's application work queues 6. A subscription pane that provides links to database records based on users' customizable preferences. The Workload Summary pane will contain summary data about the contents of the specific applications identified to the user in their profile. For instance, inventory managers have a number of applications they work with on a routine basis, like Flashpoint and IM Tool Kit. For the most part, these reside on the client-server environment in Oracle databases; however, some application data may reside in other database systems including mainframe IDMS databases. To produce the Workload Summary pane on the Intelligent Desktop, we'll start with a profile of each employee. The profile will have information identifying an individual to their location, management chain, work role and to the applications and data sources they use to do work. For each applicaiton an individual uses, we will write a Data Acquisition Agent in LotusScript. The agent will contain the SQL string needed to extract relevant data from that application. The agent will use the Lotus Notes R5 Domino Connector Engine to interface with the back-end database (usually an Oracle table) and pass the agent's SQL call in the back-end DB's native mode. That SQL will return raw workload data from the source database to the Notes Data Acquisition Agent. The agent will summarize it into one or two meaningful lines that will tell an employee enough about the work pending in that application to weigh it's relative importance against work pending in other applicaitons. The agent will write that entry on a Summary document. Each application on that person's data source profile will have its own Data Acquisition Agent. All their summarized entries will be displayed on the workload pane. Based on that summary information, an employee can decide which work is more important and a click on that entry in the Workload Summary pane will open the application on his or her desktop. To produce the Subscription Links pane on the Intelligent Desktop, we will use an agent to access the profile documents for each employee. On the profile document, they are able to select from a list of 80 open databases, mostly bulletin boards and Kms repositories, the ones to which they want to subscribe. They may also select from a list of global key words or enter their own keywords. For each user, the agent will assemble a search string based on that user's selected global keywords list. The agent will access a list of all the open databases and look up the server location and file name of each database. The agent will then apply the search string against each data base. The search results are returned as a search results object that contains links back to the documents in the database. An object is built for each database searched and is held in memory. Next, the agent builds a search string for each database selected by the user. That search looks for any new documents created that day on that database. The results are returned to the search results objects for each database that are already being held in memory. Next, we create a daily subscriptions document for each user that contains links to new documents in subscribed databases or with selected keywords. The links from subscribed databases display with a blue dot and links based on global keywords display a red dot. We hold five daily subscription documents for each user. A click on the date link brings up that day's subscription returns in the Subscriptions pane. A user profile will be developed to allow users to customize their information needs. That profile will allow them to identify job-based roles and to identify the applications that they will need to access. It will allow them to subscribe to open databases or to key words in those databases. Ultimately, the Base Administrative Support System (BASS) will house the profiles, but, in the interim, a unique profile system will be developed for the Intelligent Desktop. 3) Place of Performance: Work will be performed on-site at Navy commands in Mechanicsburg, PA and Philadelphia, PA. 4) Period of Performance: From issuance of delivery order through September 30, 2001. 5) Security: The contractor will not be required to handle any classified or sensitive information. Hardcopies of the Statement of Work may be obtained by calling Valerie Kolaric at (717) 605-5325. All responsible sources may submit a quote which shall be considered by the agency. Quotes for this request must be submitted in writing to NAVICP Mechanicsburg, Code 0272.14 and may be submitted by FAX at (717) 605-4600. Telephonic quotes will not be honored. The award will be issued on or about 15 days after publication of this notice.
