- Description
- Provide engineering support that will lead to the development of the new generation of moored platforms for national programs for the Pacific Marine Environment Lab in Seattle, WA. Such programs include but are not limited to TAO/ATLAS (http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/), Tsunami DART (http://tsunami.pmel.noaa.gov/dartqc/WaveWatcher), the Global Carbon Cycle Program (http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/co2/co2-home.html), and high latitude moored systems for regional climate studies. Much of the effort in this project will be directed at (1) increasing the service life of moored systems in hostile environments; (2) reducing the size and complexity of moored systems, thereby reducing unit costs; (3) simplifying the at-sea deployment and recovery procedure; (4) reducing the inherent vulnerability to vandalism; and (5) improving the quality of measurements on the platforms. Offeror shall have proven skills in the design, development and deployment of deep ocean moorings used for ocean research with specific skills and experience with taut-line surface moorings for harsh conditions, including strong currents, high winds, and long period deployments. Areas of expertise must include mechanical design, marine materials, data acquisition, data telemetry, power systems, and ocean sensor technology. Offeror must also be skilled in the use of SolidWorks for CAD, machine and fabrication shop operations for prototype development and testing, and research vessel operations. The estimated period of performance will be March 15, 2001 through February 14, 2002 with options for two additional one-year periods. All responsible offerors may submit a proposal to the Agency. This is 100% set-aside for small business.
