Description

In order to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS), it is essential that the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) continue a contractual arrangement with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. (BCBSF) as it prepares to competitively procure a Part A system maintainer for the FISS. HCFA therefore intends to contract with BCBSF on a sole source basis for 12 months for maintenance, support services and contract transition support with a possible new system maintainer for the FISS. The FISS processes Part A Medicare claims, which include inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health, and hospice care . The FISS supports the integrity of the Medicare claims processing environment for medicare providers and beneficiaries. The FISS maintainer ensures that Medicare part A system changes are programmed in accordance with Medicare regulations and requirements in the key areas of data collection and validation, claims control, pricing, adjudication, correspondence, reimbursement and financial processing. BCBSF is currently performing all of the aforementioned services for HCFA. A synopsis publicizing a full and open competition for these services will be published on or about May 07, 2001.****
