Description
The government is issuing this Request For Information (RFI) as part of a market survey for a 7.62mm Light Machine Gun (LMG). Currently, the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has an approved requirement to procure a quantity of 7.62mm Light Machine Guns (LMG). It is planned to acquire the LMG as a Non-Developmental Item (NDI) acquisition. Each LMG shall be supplied with the following ancillary equipment: spare barrel, barrel bag, sling, bipod, blank firing adapter, expended cartridge deflector and cleaning kit. The following are critical requirements of the system. The LMG shall be chambered for 7.62mmx51mm NATO cartridge ammunition. The weapon shall have an effective range that covers area targets up to 1000 meters. The LMG shall weigh no more than 21 lbs. (without ammunition, bipod, and accessories) with an objective of no more than 18 pounds (without ammunition, bipod, and accessories). The firing rate of the LMG shall have a minimum of 500 rounds per minute (rpm) with an objective of a minimum of 625 rpm. The LMG shall have a maximum length of 45 inches with an objective of 40 inches or less. The LMG shall be interoperable with the SOPMOD. Interoperability with SOPMOD is defined as the presence of a Rail Interface System with the rail configuration governed by MIL-STD 1913. The LMG shall have at least three MIL-STD-1913 rails with and objective of four MIL-STD-1913 rails. The LMG service life requirement is 50,000 rounds with an objective of 100,000 rounds. The LMG barrel life requirement is 10,000 rounds before major accuracy degradation. The objective is 25,000 rounds before major accuracy degradation. The LMG reliability requirement is for a mean rounds between stoppage (MRBS) of 4,000 rounds. The objective is a MRBS of 8,000 rounds. The weapon system shall be corrosion resistant. The weapon system shall be capable of being submerged in salt and fresh water to a depth of 66 feet for a minimum of 8 hours, surfaced, drained without disassembly and reliably function in 1 minute or less. The government requires that in response to this Sources Sought, interested vendors provide information regarding the following: Specific production status of a 7.62mm LMG meeting the above requirements. Specific availability date of two-three each "product sample" 7.62mm LMGs that could be tested by the government to the threshold receiver life. Projected production cost of approximately 700 weapon systems. Additional program requirements documentation is available upon request from the technical POC.
